This cannot be, the voices seem to be louder than ever but I killed Samuel. I drove the knife right through his heart! That should have turned me back to a mortal human! So I ran to the mirror to check my reflection and sure enough I could still see right through me. How could this be? This is impossible! That would mean that Samuel was not the head vampire and that the blood in the flask was someone else’s, but whom?
“Laura! Laura! Wake up! Wake up!”
“Yes Jerry dear?”
“Look in a mirror!”
“What for?”
“Just look!”
When she looked in the mirror, the most confused look came upon her face that was similar to mine, then she uttered…
“How could this be? Samuel told me that it was his blood before we drank it!”
“What did he say?”
“Take this, it is my blood”
“No time for jokes!”
“I swear! That’s what he said! Then he said take a sip of salvation”
“How romantic”
“Now who is the one joking?”
“Where did he take you?”
“Back to his place”
“Where is it?”
“What kind of friend are you? Not knowing where your friend lives”
“Just answer the question”
“I am not sure but I know how to get there, follow me”
“Fine, but one question, how did you find me here?”
“Me and Samuel walked right by your place about 20 minutes after you left us, we saw you walk in, somewhat distraught and I guess I made a little mental note to myself, now, that you have your answer, let’s go!”
As odd as the answer sounded it did answer it so off we went, in search of another answer, with the way this day has gone I am not looking forward to what we may discover or what the answer to all this is, oh Samuel, what have you gotten me into now?
So off we went, down Jarvis Street, all the way to Young, and then we turned on Young down towards Queen Street. All the while, as we were walking, I was wondering why Samuel would walk so far out of his way as the bar was down Dundas, then it hit me, he was following me, that son of a bitch. As I was processing all this we ended up in front of an old bank.
“Well, this is the place”
“Are you sure?”
“Yep, there is an entrance around the back”
“But this place has been closed down for years!”
“Vampires like places that are old or have some sort of history so I guess this place had to do, plus it’s nice and dark inside!”
“And the Gardens wouldn’t do?”
“Was he a hockey fan?”
“Used to be”
“Oh, how nice”
“Is there anyone else in there? I don’t think I can handle anymore surprises today”
“Well, let’s hope not than. I don’t need you dying on me”
“Thanks for the sarcasm”
“My specialty”
And with that sweet response we slipped around the back, behind the fence, through the backdoor into the old abandoned bank. Laura was right, it is dark in here, a light would be nice but I am guessing that no one has paid the electrical bills in a while so I guess that option is out of the question. So I dug my hands into my pocket when, lone behold, a lighter! Must have taken it that night at the bar as I don’t smoke so I turned to Laura and said (flickering the lighter on)
“Let there be light”
“Awesome! Look, a flashlight!”
“Fancy that”
“Let there be more light!”
“Oh shit!”
“What? Oh dear God!”
“Please tell me that’s the welcoming committee and not 4 vampires having a nap!”
“Okay, no need to panic, just don’t touch them and they won’t wake up. Let’s go to Samuel’s room and see if we can find anything. Any sort of clue of who the head vampire is before it’s too late and we give into the temptation of our hunger”
So off into Samuel’s room we went. I found some old photos from our days in high school and college, some old scraps of paper with scribbles on them and oh, look here, an address. I put that into my pocket and began to look for more clues like a name or who the address belonged to.
Damn! Nothing! After 20 or so minutes of searching for an answer all me and Laura had was an address, not much else, in fact, we left with more questions than when we entered the room. As we were leaving I noticed one of the eyes of the four vampires was starting to open, so, looking at Laura, we both grabbed a couple of sharp rods and drove them through the hearts of the sleeping vampires! One squealed in pain before he imploded while the other hissed so horrifically that it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand! He then exploded as we ran out of the dark building as fast as we got in there, into the day light that was shinning outside, being chased by the other two vampires who woke up from all the commotion we caused. One forgot what time of the day it was and was burn instantly at the sight of sun while the other stood back to watch his third friend die, in a matter of minutes we had killed three vampires thus pissing one off.
“You lucky bastards! Just wait ‘till this blasted light goes away and I’ll make your asses pay!”
Needless to say, I agreed with the angry vampire, we got lucky back there, so back to my place we went.
Back at my place we sat around the table, and looked over the address on the piece of paper that we found. The address read 78 Kirby RD, so I went on the computer to look up the location only to find that it was near King City…King City!? What the fuck would Samuel have an address up near King City for? That’s when the words of Laura struck in my head from what she said earlier, about vampires liking places that were old and had history, like the old CIBC bank on Young street, plus I know there is an old farm there that is supposedly haunted which at this point, after these last 24 hours, I will believe. So off to the car, me and Laura went, off to Kirby RD, hoping to find some answers, something that can link together the madness, something that will allow all this to make sense. However, with the way this day has gone I am not holding my breath anytime soon; it has been that kind of day.
Almost an hour to drive up north, wow did the snow hit hard up here, got off at Major Mack and just drove down from there. The car ride was enjoyable, kind of think I am falling for Laura, okay, I admit it, kind of is an understatement! But they do say that in times like these people become closer together and what could be a couple of people who met only a couple of days ago can be like life long companions…if that made any sense. Just as we were getting out of the car, the song “River Runs Red” came through the stereo, a song by one of my favourite bands, Life of Agony; man does their music really entice the soul.
“Wow its cold out here”
“Want me to warm you up?”
“Maybe later honey”
“Can I have that in writing?”
“Shut up and knock on the door”
“I know you love it…no answer, looks like no one has lived here in a while, lets see if we can slip around the back”
When we opened the door all you could see was piles of dust…but wait! What do we have here? Fresh footprints in the dust, can’t be more than a month old but there are more, fresher footprints, no more than a couple of days old, things can start to get interesting soon with the way this day has gone. So me and Laura followed the footprints all the way down to the basement.
When we got down there the room was lit by candle light giving it a really eerie feeling, the air felt as cold as death in the room. Then right in the middle of the room was a coffin, not like in the movies but it looks almost new, looking at it, it cannot be more then a few years old at least. So I and Laura walked up to it grabbing to the metal rod I had found next to the old furnace in case we interrupt anyone’s nap. Then we flung the door open! But no one was home, puzzled and confused I noticed that while we were up here it got really dark and that someone will be coming home in a few hours. After breathing some sigh of relief I noticed a picture from the company Christmas party last year with the whole staff, odd, very odd.
“Miss me fuckers?”
Shit! Looks like we have company! It’s the damn vampire from the bank!
“I sensed you’d come around here, nice place isn’t it? Too bad it will be the last place you visit!”
Then I swung at him with the metal rod and he ducked hitting me with an upper cut! That’s when Laura jumped on his back and what is that in her hand? It’s a pocket knife! I then threw myself at him and pushed him against the wall while Laura shoved the knife through his black heart! He then stuttered for a couple of steps before collapsing to the ground and turning to dust.
“Well that’s that I guess…do you smell something burning?”
“Oh my Lord! The building is on fire!”
And with that we ran out of the basement through the door and out of the house, one of the candles must have been knocked over during the fight. While we stood outside, catching our breath, we looked around and noticed that there were no neighbours around. We got into the car and we could still see through our reflections, not much has changed I guess, still have more questions than answers, so I started the engine and off we went, back to my apartment, as the picture from last year’s Christmas party crossing my mind during the whole ride home. Whoever had that picture must be close, there has to be some link connecting me to this demented family tree of vampires and half vampires. Someone has to be the head of this forsaken family…but who?
