Our Lady Peace - Burn Burn (2009) Review
as clumsy as OLP can be (in that albums are either embraced by the masses or not) this album is right on in that clumsy fashion! now when i say clumsy i am referring to the band's sophomore album, not to the actual meaning of the world so yes, this album is a hit in my opinion! i will admit that i am a fan who owns and loves all of their releases, so take my word for what it is. the album opens with the lead off single "All You Did Was Save My Life" (one of the standout tracks on the album) which sets the tone of Burn Burn as a band who has returned to its roots. this album has more of an alternative feel to it when compared to their previous 2 albums (Gravity and Healthy in Paranoid Times) which had a more "mainstream" feel. however! even though this album is more embracing of their roots, this album sounds nothing like any other OLP album to date. no album sounds the same as the band never sticks to one formula ever. there are flashbacks of Naveed, Gravity, Happiness... and even Clumsy. so Maida doesn't sing like he used to, so what? this album is the sound of a band who have traveled and weathered stores only to come back stronger, wiser and dare i say it? more mature! if you are a fan, even a casual fan, pick this one up! you will not be disappointed. Highlights include "All You Did was Save My Life", "Refuge", "Dreamland", "Monkey Brains", "White Flag", "The End is Where We Begin", "Escape Artist", "Never Get Over You" and "Paper Moon". in fact, this is their strongest album since Spiritual Machines so for that alone, i give this album 9 balloons out of 10 cause this album is just that good in my opinion. for a band that alot of fans have thought to been in the dark over the last 10 years (even though they had some of their biggest hits in that time), this is them showing some life and light to those who have thought their best days where behind them...guess not! they still have alot left to say and some more entertaining to do as the future looks quite bright.
